Yo.

I'm Connie Chen, a UX Designer and mentor. Interested in solving complex problems while creating social impact, meaningful experiences, and purpose. Focused on improving collaboration, advocating for UX, mentorship, and design leadership.

As a Boston native living in the Bay Area for the past ten years, some of my interests are books, drag queens, finding good eats, photography, and playing Street Fighter Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Forever aspiring to own a corgi, specifically a fluffy, tri-color red-headed pup. In the meantime, reading a good book while listening to dope music will do. (yes, multitasking at its finest).

Recommendations.

I brought Connie on board our design team at Advent Software as a “visual designer” but she brought much more than that. She brought joy. She brought humor. She brought snarkiness. She brought key ingredients for that party where we made sea urchin sushi with secret ingredients. So many of us come to work and present a small sliver of ourselves, but Connie always brought her full, true self. She reminded us all to not take things too seriously and added an unexpected dimension of zaniness and authenticity that became a part of our team’s DNA. Connie would make a wonderful addition to any creative team, especially one that can appreciate her gifts and wicked sense of humor.
Jon Snydal, UX Director at Advent Software
Connie is an experienced UX designer with many talents who is able to take on many challenging design tasks simultaneously and see them through to full completion. She navigated with confidence through the maze of design and technical issues and was one of the key players on my team working with one of the toughest front-end development teams at Ancestry. This allowed us to ship new product features efficiently and with great success. If you are looking to expand your team’s design capabilities I’d recommend Connie full heartedly!
Yury Frolov, UX Director of AncestryDNA & Design Systems at Ancestry
I had the pleasure of working closely with Connie on several complex product design efforts at Ancestry DNA. In the hope of helping you as a recruiter or hiring manager, I’ll allow Connie’s portfolio to speak to quality the designs she creates and will focus instead on the quality of the person behind the pixels.

One of the many things that immediately sets Connie apart is the caring heart that she offers to her teammates. She is always willing to offer her time and attention a colleague when they are in need, whether it be to brainstorm solutions to difficult problems, provide feedback to help move a teammate’s work forward, or put hand to mouse to meet a tough deadline. Along the way, her quick wit and easy laugh can really light up a room and make even the most challenging initiative fun.

Connie also offers her heart to the customers she serves. Of particular note here is her tireless advocacy for underrepresented customers. Connie brings a deep commitment to inclusive design and works hard every day to ensure that the needs of all users are considered in her work.

For these reasons, among many others, I recommend Connie as an addition to your team. You’ll be glad that you did.
Paul Dyrwal, Director of Content Design & Localization at Ancestry
As a Product Manager, I had the pleasure of working with Connie on a complex and challenging new initiative at Ancestry. I feel fortunate to have had a design partner who rolled up her sleeves and navigated uncharted waters with a smile. Her commitment and dedication came through. This was despite her being in the difficult position of being the UX lead for 2 different products. Separate from her strong work ethic, Connie was such a delight to be around. Her jovial personality made day to day work enjoyable.
Manasa Boriah, Product Manager at Ancestry
In addition to her skills as a designer, I’d like to call out Connie’s dedication to those who are underserved, under-represented, or vulnerable. She’s been a steady, informal advocate for those customers and co-workers who need it most. I’m also impressed with her self-starter involvement in unassigned roles to make the product and workplace better—volunteering on committees, stepping forward when she sees a need. She’ll be a great addition, not only to your design team, but to the whole organization.
